Map critical circuits before you ask for a quote

OT and ICU / NICU circuits, emergency lighting, imaging (CT, MRI, X-ray), oxygen plants, cold storage, blood banks and pharmacy fridges — these are non-negotiable loads. Lift banks and HVAC often follow immediately after. Non-critical load like admin block cooling can wait.

A hospital-grade rental sizing starts with this split — critical vs deferrable — not with a facility-wide kW total. The critical bucket dictates the minimum capacity; the deferrable bucket decides how much headroom you need.

Silent canopy is a patient-experience requirement

Wards, ICUs and OPD blocks cannot tolerate open-set genset noise. Every hospital-adjacent unit should be a silent-canopy DG set — verify this explicitly on the quotation, not just verbally.

Preventive maintenance on long contracts

Multi-week and multi-month placements should include scheduled preventive maintenance visits inside the rental contract — not billed as extras. Ask for the visit frequency and the maintenance-log format up front. Audit-ready documentation matters when NABH or internal quality reviews come around.

Dispatch response and after-hours support

Emergencies don't respect office hours. A hospital-grade rental line must be staffed 24×7, 365 days — including nights, weekends and public holidays. What matters is that the delivery window is quoted in writing, subject to live fleet availability and road conditions.

Capacity band by typical hospital scale

Small clinics and diagnostic centres usually fit inside the 30–125 KVA range. Mid-scale hospitals with imaging + OT + ICU loads typically need the 160–250 KVA band. Multi-speciality tertiary-care hospitals often move into 320–500 KVA or larger, depending on lift banks, HVAC and campus footprint.
